In 2006, FedEx Corp. announced an agreement to acquire the less-than-truckload (LTL) operations of Watkins Motor Lines, including its U.S. domestic and Canadian operations. The new company has been re-branded FedEx National LTL.
The acquisition aligns two highly complementary LTL transportation providers to create a comprehensive LTL solution, better meeting the needs of customers from both companies.
FedEx National LTL functions as a separate operating division within FedEx Freight.
The FedEx Freight segment is an operating company of FedEx Corp. Its operating networks also include FedEx Freight, FedEx Custom Critical and Caribbean Transportation Services
FedEx is able to offer a reliable, cost-effective long-haul LTL transportation service that complements its regional LTL service, as well as its air express and ground delivery offerings.
In recognition of FedEx National LTL’s position within the FedEx Freight segment, the unit's logo utilizes both FedEx Corp. purple and FedEx Freight red. The new name reflects the company’s focus on the long-haul LTL sector.
